Member of the month – Laura Arhire
Laura is a dedicated member of CrossFit Wädenswil. You can mostly meet her in the 9 a.m. class. From the moment she joined our box, it was evident that she possesses an extraordinary drive to improve her fitness and overall well-being. The progress she made it’s enormous and we are happy to see her embracing her growth and looking forward to pushing to the new limits with her.
We couldn’t be happier to have Laura in our community!
In this interview, you will find out more about Laura…
- What or who brought you to Crossfit Wädenswil?
In February of 2020, I was looking for a new Crossfit box. I tried Crossfit Wädi and never looked back.
- Do you remember how was your first ever Crossfit workout? Tell us about it!
It was in 2018, a Saturday towards the end of June. I didn’t really know anything about CrossFit, and only had a vague idea about the movements, but I wanted to do something more structured and had promised myself to try so I did. It was such a pain (unsurprisingly, I didn’t finish… but I did 2 of 3 rounds) but this class style works really well for me so I kept going back.
- How do you like to end your day?
I need a good hour or two to wind down before I fall asleep around 11 every night; I will usually practice a hobby (something creative, I started painting about 18 months ago!) or watch a movie. Movies are also an excellent opportunity to sneak in additional recovery/mobility time.
- If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose?
Most people I interacted with before Crossfit were more or less like me – people joke about the ‚tech bubble‘ but it’s real. But at the box, everyone is different, and it was a real eye-opener to hear about so many different life experiences. So while I don’t have a specific person in mind, I would pick anyone from whom I could learn another perspective.
- What has required the most courage of you in your life so far?
Moving to Switzerland was a big one almost 10 years ago! I was sooooo afraid of learning the language, integrating into Swiss society, and working on something brand new. I had a pro/con list and everything! The language ended up being as hard as I thought, but the rest turned out great (because Switzerland is the best country in the world), with everything I hoped for, and more.
- How do you get motivated for a difficult task?
I’m usually good with telling myself to just get it over with, and over time I found the things I procrastinate on most are those where I’m not sure I have the right answer. When I catch myself doing this, I pick up a hobby project and spend a few hours doing it. This almost always helps me reflect and figure out what’s missing, and then I can get whatever is done.
- What would you sing at Karaoke night?
For me, singing is a bit like running, so it would have to be either an easy-to-sing crowd-pleaser so no one listens or something hilariously over the top that would be too funny for me to be self-conscious about.
- What do you like the most about Crossfit Wädneswil that keeps you coming back?
It’s the community, 100%! Everyone is so nice, and whether I’m in a great mood or a terrible one, coming to class, I always leave with a smile on my face. I have been to a few other places, especially while traveling, and while this might be me being awkward in new spaces, people are just…friendly here. I was trying to figure out why I feel this way about Crossfit Wädenswil a while ago, and I think this must be the coaches leading by example.
- If you could learn another language which one would you choose and why?
I never expected this question to be so complicated to answer, but here I’m an hour later and I guess languages just aren’t so interesting to me to learn. My poor French is bothersome, so if I had to choose, that would probably be it.
- Tell us something about you, that we might not know…
I’ve always liked watching gymnastics (the jumping kind) and would like to try it someday.
Thank you so much for those lovely answers!
We are happy to have you!
