Member of the month – Silvan Engetschwiler

Our first Member of the Month in 2024 is Silvan Engetschwiler.
Silvan has been with us at CrossFit Wädenswil for 4 years. We would describe him as calm and cordial. Except when it comes to rope climbs, where his emotions get the better of him. Read more below.
After a 6:00 a.m. class, he can often be found on his bike. Or he practises his balance on his hands in a handstand. But he can’t do anything without coffee, so the first thing Silvan does when he walks into the box is to switch on the coffee machine.

Silvan, we are very happy to have you with us and to have you as a member doing a workout several times a week. We really appreciate your honest and open manner. We also really appreciate your friendly manner towards your fellow members and the coaches.

1. why CrossFit Wädenswil?

The first time I came into contact with CrossFit was between 2010 and 2012, when I had a beginner’s subscription to a CrossFit box in Horgen for three months. At that time, however, it stayed at three months because I wasn’t completely convinced. In the years that followed, I concentrated more on martial arts, which brought me into contact with CrossFit again and again, as the two could be combined well. I came to Wädenswil after Andre Ritschard kept encouraging me, or rather urging me, to train more CrossFit. At some point in 2020, I decided to complete the trial training sessions in Wädenswil and have stuck with it ever since.

2 How long have you been training with us?

As I mentioned above, I’m not sure how long I’ve been a member of CrossFit Wädenswil. I think it must have been in September 2020 when I started.

3.tell us something about yourself…

I am Silvan, 34 years old and live in Wädenswil. I have been working in the social sector for over 10 years, mainly with male adolescents between the ages of 14 and 22 in developmental crises. Since March 2023, I have returned to my original professional roots as a pastry chef/confectioner alongside my main job and founded a pastry shop/bakery start-up in March 2023. With my brand “Mr. Beaky’s”, I supply restaurants with my “Beakys” (formerly Nidelbeckeli). The online presence should finally be ready by the end of January

Apart from that, I consider myself a cheerful and open-minded person. I’m always up for a joke and usually in a good mood

4. vacation by the sea or vacation in the snowy mountains?

I’m not a big fan of winter sports and rarely go to the mountains. So definitely a vacation by the sea.

5.if you had to describe CrossFit Wädi, how would it sound?

The doors are open to everyone and a cool and friendly community awaits you. The training sessions are tough, but you are never alone at the limit. It’s simply more fun to push your limits together. In my experience, you either love CrossFit or you hate it. There is unlikely to be anything in between.

6.how would you describe your strengths and weaknesses?

I definitely need to work on my legs, as I quickly reach my limits in the strength section and in the workouts. Surprisingly, I feel the same way with dips. In comparison, my strengths probably lie more in handstand movements or longer CrossFit workouts of 20 minutes or more.

7.what are your goals in life?

There are many smaller goals, but I strive for a healthy mediocrity in every area of life. The so-called golden mean, as they say.

8.if you could be someone else for a day, who would you like to be?

To be honest, this question has been bothering me a little. I could list many famous people, but I don’t know anyone so well that I could choose someone and justify why I chose that person. There are so many people I would like to be for a day to understand how they think, act and feel. I would be very interested to know whether the famous spiritual teachers of this world really act and feel what they preach. That’s why I would spontaneously choose Eckhart Tolle.

9.what is your favorite food?

Sushi

10.which movement would you want to abolish?

Definitely the Rope Climp. Rarely have I loathed a movement as much as this one. It’s a real challenge for me every time not to freak out during training.

Thank you very much for answering the questions. Stay as you are Silvan, it’s nice to have you with us.
